Pavel Sukhoi is a well-known aircraft designer, Doctor of Technical Sciences, one of the founders of the Soviet jet and supersonic aviation.
The future aircraft designer was born in the city of Glubokoe, Disna district, and received his technical education in Moscow. In early 1924, he began working as a draftsman, and later was invited to the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute as a design engineer, where he began to design aircraft.
Under the leadership of Pavel Sukhoi, more than 50 aircraft designs were developed. In the city of Glubokoe, there is a museum of Pavel Sukhoi, one of his combat aircraft has been installed. Streets in Vitebsk, Moscow, as well as the Gomel Technical University bear the name of Sukhoi.
